Our Story

Kadambari – A Group for the Performing Arts & Crafts

Kadambari is a Bangalore-based non-profit organisation dedicated to using the performing and fine arts as powerful tools for education, empowerment, and cultural preservation.

Founded in 1987 by Chandra Jain, Kadambari began with a simple yet profound vision: to help children reconnect with their cultural heritage through meaningful artistic experiences. At a time when urban India was rapidly modernising, Kadambari offered an alternative path — one rooted in creative exploration, traditional wisdom, and self-discovery.

Through theatre, music, movement, storytelling, and craft, Kadambari creates immersive spaces where people of all ages and backgrounds engage with the arts — not only to learn skills, but to cultivate empathy, confidence, cultural awareness, and a deeper sense of identity.

Our Work Over the Years

  • Conducted transformative workshops and performances for thousands of children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds
  • Collaborated with master artisans, musicians, dancers, and theatre practitioners from across India
  • Revived traditional craft practices and supported rural artisan communities
  • Served as a cultural bridge between urban and rural India, fostering shared understanding and mutual respect

What sets Kadambari apart is our belief that art is not just for performance, it is a way of thinking, feeling, and connecting. Every workshop we design is a journey of imagination, resilience, and rooted expression.

Why Our Work Matters

In a fast-changing, globalised world, the community is getting increasingly disconnected from their roots. Traditional arts are vanishing, and mainstream education often sidelines creativity in favour of competition and conformity.

At Kadambari, we believe the arts are essential to growth, not optional. They help us as humans make sense of the world, build emotional intelligence, and connect with our cultural legacies.

By preserving endangered art forms and supporting traditional artisans, we protect centuries of cultural knowledge and ensure that these legacies live on.
